Volvo´s EC200D, the fastest 20-ton excavator on the market, is preparing land for the construction of more than a thousand homes in a housing estate in Manado, Indonesia.
A growing middle class and rising levels of urbanization is fueling rapid residential real estate growth in Indonesia, according to research firm Oxford Business Group. Indonesian property developer PT Bumi Mapanget Asri, is building a 300-hectare housing complex in Manado, North Sulawesi, Indonesia, to meet the housing needs of over a thousand families in the city. To help with this project, the developer is relying on an EC200D crawler excavator to prepare the land for the first phase of construction.
“With the challenging tropical conditions in Indonesia, we needed a machine like the EC200D which could handle large workloads while remaining weather-proof,” said Maik Pesot, director of PT Bumi Mapanget Asri. “With high load-bearing buckets, a powerful Volvo engine and an all-weather cab, our EC200D excavator helps us to perform rain or shine.”
For the past six months, the company has deployed the EC200D to carry out a wide range of tasks, including clearing debris, leveling the ground and moving materials to and from the site. Working up to 16 hours daily, the powerful excavator is helping PT Bumi Mapanget Asri stay on track to meet its target of completing over a hundred houses annually.
“The EC200D has brought a slew of productivity improvements to our site. Its low fuel consumption coupled with short cycle times and a large bucket capacity has helped us to reduce the costs on-site,” Pesot said.
The EC200D features the powerful Volvo D5E Tier 3 engine that delivers 123 kW at 2,000 rpm. Coupled with compatible hydraulics, the EC200D is designed to operate quickly and with short cycle times. It is configured with a 5.7 m boom, 2.9 m arm and 0.8 m3 bucket, while maximum breakout force is 116 kN.
The EC200D launched into Indonesia in the first quarter of 2018. With its flexibility to carry out a wide range of general construction tasks and excellent performance, the machine is proving especially popular in the country, with orders continuing to grow.
PT Bumi Mapanget Asri purchased the EC200D from a local dealer, Intraco Penta Prima Servis (IPPS), one of Volvo’s two distribution partners in Indonesia.
“One of our reasons for purchasing the EC200D is the excellent aftermarket support IPPS offers. We have developed a close relationship with the dealer and are confident that they will fully support us with their expertise as we continue to use the machine for years to come,” Pesot said.
